Parish Profile

Christ Church is a parish, over 65 years old, located in Denver Colorado. Christ Church over the last 5 and half years has been diligent in pursuing a strategic plan which has positioned Christ Church for growth and community impact. We have restructured our administrative ministries and are on firm ground regarding finances, facilities and staffing. We are presently restructuring our leadership and program ministries to facilitate and empower Christ Church to engage our members and our community in a meaningful and impactful ways. We seek to be a Church which is committed to be both the Church gathered and the Church scattered.

In 2013, Christ Church, called Fr. Terry McGugan as the 6th Rector of Christ Church. Presently Christ Church employs 7 full time and 13 part time staff, which includes 11 Treasureland Pre-school teachers and administrators. We also work with 3 contract workers who are not direct employees of the Church.  Christ Church is in a building phase and seeks staff members who are high capacity leaders who can build ministry, develop leaders and reach beyond our walls to the world.

Parish Identity

Christ Church is a unique community, which describes itself as a charismatic, evangelical, orthodox, liturgical, Episcopal Church. We embrace and openly live as a community which values and exercises the gifts of the Spirit and seeks to display the fruit of the Spirit in all we do. We understand the gifts and fruit of the Spirit are released through the baptism of the Holy Spirit as described in the Acts of Apostles. We are a community which seeks to live out our charismatic identity in the world as a sign of God’s power, grace, and desire to reconcile the world to Himself.

Our evangelical identity centers in Paul’s words, “And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are Christ’s ambassadors as though God were making his appeal through us.”  We understand a primary role of the church in the world is to actively, affectionately and intentionally proclaim Jesus as the Son of God and sole savior of the world.

Our orthodox identity centers in our adherence to the Bible as the inspired word of God as expressed in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.” We subscribe without reservation to the understanding of scripture as it is expressed in the ordination rites of the BCP. “I do believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the Word of God and to contain all things necessary to salvation.” Therefore, we submit to the authority of scripture as it has been interpreted by the Holy Spirit through the mind of the Church over the last 2000 years.

Our liturgical identity is centered in the worship of the Church. We believe the primary work of the Church is to worship and be a holy presence of prayer and worship in the world. Therefore, worship, corporate and individual, is of great importance in the life of the church. We follow the common lectionary and recognize the liturgical seasons by varying our worship accordingly so as to enter into the story of salvation through powerful worship. We understand our liturgical forms of worship form who we are individually in our faith and as a community of faith. We trust our liturgical forms can and should be modified in ways, which address the cultural nuances of those we are trying to reach. Therefore we seek to be innovative and creative in our worship while staying grounded in our liturgical identity.

Christ Church is an Episcopal Church which, is actively participating in the common life of our diocese. We are fully engaged with our diocesan family while staying grounded in our unique identity. We enjoy the support and care of our Bishop and seek to support him in his apostolic ministry. While we may not agree with our leadership in all things, we recognize and embrace we are one body and each members of it and therefore we have much to learn about ourselves and our brothers and sisters in the diocese as we live into our common life.
