Seeing the Sacred: A Lenten Visit to the Denver Art Museum

"The more the soul sees of God, the more it desires Him."
-Julian of Norwich

Join Dr Grace Hamman + Fr Joseph Wolyniak as we visit the Denver Art Museum, inviting you to ‘see the sacred’ through art. Exploring Lenten themes, Grace and Joseph will offer background on particular works with time for personal reflection and prayer.

Due to space constraints, registration is limited to 25 participants. Cost is $20/person for DAM members and nonmembers.

Please see the DAM website for information on directions and parking, visit tips and FAQs, accessibility, and more.

Participants are also invited to an optional lunch with Fr Joseph (12:00-1:00pm) at Café Gio (located in the Martin Building, offering salads/sandwiches, including vegan/gluten-free options, ~$10-15). Email Fr Joseph to RSVP.

Questions? Contact Fr Joseph.

Grace Hamman, Ph.D. (Duke University) is the author of Jesus through Medieval Eyes: Beholding Christ with the Artists, Mystics, and Theologians of the Middle Ages  (Zondervan Reflective). Grace is an independent scholar of late medieval poetry and contemplative writing who also dabbles in learning about historical art from time to time. She is a parishioner at Christ Church along with her husband, Scott, and their three kids. Read more of her medieval musings at gracehamman.substack.com.

Joseph Wolyniak is an associate of Christ Church Denver (CO), vicar of St. David Emmanuel Shoreline (WA), and teaches theology at Seattle University. He shares life with his wife (Liz Costello, rector of St Thomas Medina, WA), two uproarious children, and insouciant cats (Pace and Bene). He loves Seattle’s music scene, coffee, and adjacent outdoors. When it rains (as it incessantly does in the Pacific Northwest), he’s probably watching the Denver Nuggets, losing at Trouble (darn kids), or reading (if you want an earful, ask about Jon Fosse’s Septology).

Nate Preisinger is part of the pastoral team at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cherry Hills Village, CO.  He grew up in Upstate NY where he developed a love for basketball, reading, music, theology, and tragically, the Buffalo Bills.  Nate is married to Amanda and they have three children. Together they have fun creating and playing board games, hiking around Colorado, visiting the library, and baking.  Nate is also a certified yoga instructor, amateur mixologist, and frequent presence at the Littleton YMCA’s pickup basketball games.
